Playing darts is a great way to spend quality time with friends and family. If you really enjoy this game, you probably practice on your own too. This is one of the main advantages of the game you don’t really need anyone else to have fun while practicing it. However, this also makes it quite tempting to buy and install a dartboard at home, and this is when the problems begin …
What Damages Can Darts Cause?
Playing darts at the pub or at the office with your colleagues is a stress-free experience. Even if a dart flies astray and hits an object or ends up in the wall, it’s not really your major concern to fix the damage. However, if this happens in your home, things change, especially if you live with someone else who likes things to be tidy and perfect.
Darts are nasty little projectiles. Because they need to stick in the dartboard’s surface once they land there, they have sharp tips. This is precisely the aspect that makes them potentially dangerous.
Besides this, you can harm someone who stands or walks close to the dartboard while you’re throwing darts, these projectiles can also damage your walls, floors, or furniture.
If a dart hits the wall instead of the dartboard, it can leave ugly dents or marks there. And these take time and money to fix and they often require the help of a specialist. Moreover, the more you play, the more you risk hitting the walls if you don’t use proper protection measures.
If a dart hits the board, but then bounces and falls down to the floor, it can leave marks, scratches, and dents there too. If you’ve just renovated your living and you have a new shiny wooden floor, this is the last thing you want.
Furthermore, depending on where you place your dartboard in the room, some pieces of furniture might be at risk too. If they are close to the dartboard, you might accidentally throw a dart in their direction and end up damaging them.
How to Keep Your Home Safe?
All these sound scary, but they shouldn’t. Darts don’t simply fly in all directions, they don’t have a mind of their own. The first thing to do to avoid the damage is to place your board strategically. Mount it somewhere you feel safe playing, somewhere where there is not a lot of furniture around and you don’t risk harming people who come down the stairs or head to the kitchen.
Secondly, remember that the more you practice, the better you become, so practice regularly and you will see your aim improve. Moreover, if you want to increase your wall’s safety, there is one cheap and practical solution for this – buy a dartboard surround. Most of the darts that fly astray won’t land in the opposite wall or meters away from the dartboard. They will land quite close to your dartboard, usually a few inches away from its edge. This is why that is the area of the wall that’s mostly exposed to stray darts. If you mount a dartboard surround on your dartboard, that area will be covered.
Dartboard surrounds, also known as dartboard wall protectors, come in different shapes, colors, and materials. We can also help you with a lightweight and resistant EVA foam dartboard you simply need to manually mount around the board. Check it out in our catalog.
